August 26, 2012 CHARLTON — Emergency officials and other town employees will have the opportunity to have their hearing tested after the Board of Selectmen last week approved a request by the fire chief on behalf of his employees.
Fire Chief Charles E. Cloutier Jr. asked that town fund two kinds of industrial hearing tests — one that would measure each employee's hearing, and another that would survey ambient noise that firefighters are subjected to on a daily basis.
According to Auburn-based Industrial Hearing Testing expert Joe Houle, noise surveys are critical to be sure that adequate hearing protection is provided to employees, OSHA regulations are met, and to determine if a hearing conservation program is needed.
